Edward Hill, Jr. Receives CoSIDA Trailblazer Award

ORLANDO, FL --- Longtime Howard University sports information director Edward Hill, Jr. received the 2014 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Mary Jo Haverbeck Trailblazer Award on Wednesday afternoon on the last day of the organization's annual convention.

JCSU's Lamont Hinson named 2012-13 CIAA SID of the Year

Hampton, VA – Johnson C. Smith University’s Lamont Hinson has been elected the 2012-13 John Holley Sports Information Director of the Year by the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association. This is the first time Hinson has received this honor. His predecessor Kristene Kelly won the award in 2005.

The SID of the Year Award is named after veteran public relations and sports information practitioner John Holley. A native of Baltimore, MD, Holley directed the public information, publications and sports information programs at Albany (Ga.) State College for 14 years. In addition, he held public relations posts at Morgan State University, Mansfield (Pa.) University, and Lincoln (Mo.) University. Holley also served as sports information director at Norfolk State University and Morehead (Ky.) State University.
SCSU's Bill Hamilton to receive national award from CoSIDA

Orangeburg, S.C. - SC State University's long-time sports information director William “Bill” Hamilton, who is retiring June 30, 2013, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He will be honored on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at noon during the annual CoSIDA Convention which will take place in Orlando, Fla.

Albany State and Black College Sports lose longtime SID Edythe Bradley

albn_edythe_bradley.jpgALBANY — The beloved and longtime Sports Information Director at Albany State, Edythe Bradley, died Saturday night. She was 46.

Family and friends confirmed Sunday that the Camilla native died in Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville from a brain hemorrhage as the result of a brain aneurysm.

After 40 years as the only sports information director the Orangeburg school has ever hired, William "Bill" Hamilton confirmed Tuesday his plans to relinquish the day-to-day duties effectively June 2013.

SIAC hires Director of Communications and New Media

ATLANTA— The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced the hiring of Calleb Obumba as the Director of Communications and New Media. Prior to his arrival at the SIAC, Obumba spent five years working in sports journalism and administration. He recently left the field of education where he worked as an English teacher and football coach for the DeKalb County School System at Miller Grove High School and Middle School.
7/9/13 - Ariel Germain has resigned as Assistant Sports Information Director to becom Assistant Athletic Director for Communications at nearby Catholic University.  She began working at Catholic on July 8, 2013.
6/28/13 - Brian Howard, Sports Information and Media Specialist at The Lincoln University has resigned and accepted a position at Assisant Media Relations Director at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.  After getting married on July 6, his last official day in the athletics office at Lincoln will be July 15, 2013.
5/6/13 - Sahar Abdur-Rashid has been named Assistant Director of Championships and Alliances,Media Services at the NCAA following nearly eight years at the MEAC office.  She had been Assistant Director for Media Relations for the MEAC since 2007.  The Temple University alum first came to the MEAC office as a media relations intern in 2005.
4/10/13 - Shera White has left the CIAA conference office to pursue other opportunities
7/14/12 - Ariel V. Germain has been named Assistant Sports Information Director at Howard University. Germain comes to Howard following a three-year stint at North Carolina Central University. During her time at NCCU, she served as the Assistant Sports Information Director for two years and a graduate assistant within the department for one season, she was the primary contact for volleyball, women’s basketball, softball and men’s and women’s tennis.
Tom Galbraith has been terminated as Assistant Commissioner for Communications at the SWAC office.  He had worked in the position for two years.  Prior to joining the SWAC staff, Galbraith was Sports Information Director at Alabama A&M University.
Bernard Payton has retired as Sports Information Director at the University of the District of Columbia, effective, August 31, 2011. Prior to bcoming SID in 2002, Payton served as director of veteran’s affairs at a UDC predecessor, Federal City College, director of alumni affairs at UDC, and coordinator of the 4H Youth Foundation at UDC.
Chevonne Mansfield will be leaving the SWAC as Asst. Director of Communications on August 30 to take a similar position with the SEC.
Rob Knox will be leaving Kutztown as Sports Information Director to begin a job as a Statistics Manager for ESPN effective September 17.
Benedict College Associate Athletic Director of Communications Derrick Johnson has announced the addition of Dennis Switzer as Assistant Sports Information Director.Switzer comes to Benedict after serving as Director of Sports Administration and Information at the South Atlantic Conference for the past 11 years.
